Voting Question: UK resident needing insurance for private vehicle in USA?
I’m travelling to the USA in a few weeks. A friend in Los Angeles has an old Mercedes that he says I can use whilst there on holiday. I also hope to buy a cheap old Van to use to drive up to Canada. I assume Insurance in compulsory to drive in the USA like it is here in the UK. As these are both private vehicles and not hired, I would have to find my own Insurance. How and where do I get Insurance. I cant find anything that is of any help anywhere? Thanks

Resolved Question: Cheapest Way Out Of A Blackberry Storm?
OK, my question is fairly long and involved, but any help would be great.

In January of this year my wife and I switched from Helio to Verizon Wireless on a 2 year deal. My wife got a Voyager and I went with the LD Dare and neither of us opted for insurance because we both were always careful with phones. Well of course, 5 months later, my 7 year old niece jumped into the deep end of the local pool and I had to dive in after her. She was ok, but the Dare was done. So I called Verizon wireless and explained to them the situation, but without insurance they said my only option was a one time, 1 year contract price on any phone I wanted. After reviewing my options I decided to go with the Blackberry Storm because it was $50 cheaper than the dare and it had more features. And of course, I opted for insurance this time just in case. Well after 4 months with the Storm, I absolutely hate it. I have to do at least one battery pull a day because of freezes or other glitches. And, even after I adjusted to it, I am still not a fan of the sure press screen. So now I am stuck with a phone I don’t like, but there a lot of great looking phones coming out this holiday season and I would like to upgrade. My cancellation fee is $135, but I would like to stay with Verizon and maybe go with the Omnia 2 or one of the new google phones they have coming out. But, I don’t want to pay the crazy $500 price on a smart phone without a new contract. Is there any way around this? Can I cancel and then turn around and do a new line on my wife’s plan (it is in her name since Texas teachers get a nice discount) or will they block that and make me do a new separate account? We could both cancel and go to another service provider, but that would be two $135 cancel fees, plus the start up costs for both of us to get new phones.
I am looking for the cheapest way out of this mess, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Resolved Question: Travel insurance for over 80s with medical condition (stroke)?
This regards insurance for my British gran on a European cruise, flying from Gatwick to Marseille where the cruise boards, and later the return flight. Mainly European countries are involved but stopping off in one or two African ports over the two weeks (these are often covered in European cruise cover offered by insurance companies)

My gran had a minor stroke two days ago, the doctors refered to it as TIA. She only appeared to have had her speech affected when first admitted to hospital, so no mobility problems due to the mini stroke. She is quite a robust old lady, much more active than your typical octogenarian and despite having lots often speech trouble in hospital that day (i.e using the wrong words or basically talking gibberish) and also forgetfulness and confusion she had made a near complete recovery by the next day. She only had minor trouble remembering Christian names (to be fair she always has) and slight confusion. Some of the tablets she is taking are being stopped for fear they helped cause it and she is also going to be taking more tablets to help prevent future recurrences.

She was due to go on holiday next Saturday 10 Oct (a week today) but hadn’t got insurance yet. As far as I know she doesn’t have any other existing medical conditions (or at least none that would particularly affect getting insurance or its cost). She is 82.

Do you know if she would be likely to be able to get insurance with any companies, if so, who? Also, if you know many companies which do you think would be the cheapest
