If you’re at point A and you need to get you and your family to point B, Diesel Pushers are a great way to make the trip in luxury. But as anyone who has ever met a child knows, children get bored! After a while computer screens and movies lose their appeal so here are a few good old fashion road games to help you and the kids pass the time when you’re on the road.

The license plate game – this state to state classic is an excellent way to get everybody’s head on a swivel. Game players attempt to spot a license plate from every state. When playing this game it is often fun to bring a map of the U.S. so game players can color in or cross off the states they see license plates from. Travelers may also find it fun to count other diesel pushers they pass on the road.

Card games – Card games never go out of style and hours of time can passed while looking to match fish in the classic “Go Fish” or trying to avoid the “Old Maid” or looking to throw down the high card in “War” and more. These games can be purchased as specific decks designed for the individual games or many of these games can simply be played with your basic deck of playing cards. Games like “Old Maid” and “Go Fish” are great for the car because players hold their cards and there in no need for a board and pieces that could easily be lost in the car.

Alphabet Games – there are two kinds of alphabet games, both of which have their appeal. The first type of game consists of selecting a category and participants take turns naming qualifying elements going through the alphabet. For example if the category was foods, the first player may say Apple and the next may say Bread and so on. The other type of alphabet game requires players to find all 26 letters of the alphabet on the various road signs, license plates, billboards and business signs. The first to find all 26 letters wins the game.

I Spy – This classic guessing game is a great way to get everyone involved. One player picks something that they see and by saying “I spy with my little eye something…” the game begins. The other players take turns asking yes and no questions such as; “Is it big?” “Does it breathe?” “Is it blue?” Once enough clues are found, answers begin; “Is it the Sun?”

Moo Cow – This game can be fun and even a little educational. Game players keep their eyes open to spot and count cows on the side of the road. The more you see the higher you count. Without question, in some parts of America you will be counting pretty high!

If travelers grow tired of games or simply seek another form of entertainment, books are always a great way to pass the time. Whether a child chooses to read to themselves or to have a parent read to everybody, books are certainly a good time. Children and adults may also enjoy games like crossword puzzles, word searches or Suduko.

Regardless of how you choose to keep the kids entertained as you travel the roads of America in your diesel pusher, it is always important to remember to have fun and make the trip to a destination part of the vacation!
