Resolved Question: Gateway FX 6860 RAM upgrade?
I’ve had my Gateway FX P6860 laptop for a little less than a year now and it’s beyond awesome. I decided that I want to upgrade the RAM to improve the speed, battery life, and overall sweetness of the laptop. The specs that I have on the laptop currently are; 2.5 GHZ C2D processor (upgraded from the 1.8 GHZ C2D that it came with), 4 GB DDR2 RAM, 8800M GTS 512 GDDR3 Graphics Card, 320 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive. It’s already a really great machine to run games and pretty much anything else I throw at it. I wanted to upgrade the RAM mostly because I do a fair amount of traveling. It runs great on the charger and even off the charger but the battery life is a bit less than what I want. Playing games, it’ll run for a little more than an hour (i tested this with crysis on the max settings my machine could handle without lag or other messy things). I got a scan from crucial.com, which i was told was accurate and trsutworthy, and they said I only had two slots for RAM and I’ve got 2 2GB sticks so I’m pretty much full but I’ve heard about and seen some 4GB RAM sticks and I was wondering if I could possibly use one of those. If anyone else has this laptop or any laptop and has upgraded like I want to, please help me out. I know you can do it but I don’t want to have my laptop break down because I overloaded it on RAM. If anyone has done it and it has turned out successful and your computer hasn’t exploded for a while after the upgrade please tell me. Any other help is very much appreciated. Thanks!
Resolved Question: why does my Gateway T1616 laptop do this?
Well my wireless card to my laptop does something funny that no one seems to have an answer for. The switch to my wireless card is turned off, but i can still browse the internet, and when i turn it on its the same (duh). even when i use FN and f2 to turn off the wireless card it makes no differnce it stays on! It just started doing this a long time ago and i want an answer….WHY CAN’T I TURN OFF MY WIRELESS CARD? even disabling it does no good…so im connected to the internet no mater what.
Why would i want the wireless turned off? Becasue it runs my battery down quickly in power saver when i take i travel and theres no networks avaliable but it says its searching for wireless networks 24/7 unless i shut down the laptop
i don’t need anyone telling me my laptop is crap…my dad and my friends already tell me this (i agree to) that but im stuck with it…until the end of high school.
