Open Question: Need help planning a trip of Western Europe (and central europe maybe)?
After my original question on whether to travel to valencia or pamplona, i thought id see if anyone has any advice or suggestions for the route i have so far.
the trip will last roughly around a month, using the eurorail (trains) as transport. The definite destinations are Lisbon where the trip will begin, onto Madrid, and then Barcelona which is currently the last destination although this could change – could travel onto france and/or central europe. So the trip consists of lisbon->madrid->valencia->barcelona.
obviously that gives flexibility as the plan is to stay a few days at each place so additional places could be added as long as they aren’t off the rough track from Lisbon – Barcelona via Madrid; Valencia can be crossed off the list for a better alternative?
Aim is to stay in good hostels, flying to lisbon and flying home from the last destination giving most use of the eurorail ticket (month use of europes rail system). Like a bit of culture and lots and lots of partying! Not interested in the chav-infested costa del sol or places like it, as it seems to be full of the people you leave britain to get away from. Any recommendations for the amount of money i should take? Don’t intend on doing lots of shopping, mainly just money for hostels, food, partying and a bit of cite-seeing; i was thinking maybe £1000-1500? The trip will be around august time.
in response to tron.quito: i have read guides to europe and spoke to people who have been to some of the places – this is just another method of research. A guide book is only one interpretation of traveling and can also go out of date – especially as there is a economic downturn throughout the world.
Open Question: Can someone please help me with my causework?
I’m doing Travel & Tourism (Leisure & Tourism) in school and I need some information for my coursework. The subject is LONDON as a tourist destination; why people would go, what it has to offer and such and such.
HERE’S WHAT I NEED INFORMATION ON
1) Visitor attractions: the main ones available such as Nation Trust properties, museums, theme parks, wildlife parks, etc
2) Topography: the natural features that at track tourists, rivers, beaches, coastlines, lakes, mountains, etc
3) Facilities: Range of accommodations available- hotels, guesthouses, self caters, holiday parks, caravans, camp sites, major sport, leisure facilities for visitors, shopping opportunities that would appeal to visitors, etc
4)Arts & Entertainment: any well know festivals, theatre, museum, exhibitions, art galleries, etc.
5)Sightseeing; organised sight seeing tours such as boat trips, road trains or guides walks like ghost walks.
6)Transportation links: major rail, road, air, sea, etc
7) Why would the different types of visitors appeal to London? Why would they go? Etc. Give information for each type: Families, retired people (elderly…Etc), young people, people with special needs or health issues, overseas visitors (tourists)
For accommodation I may need example of popular places to rest, popular hotels or such, about the pricing and so on.
For transportation I may need what’s the most useful and popular transportation and how they work in London, popular companies, if and how they can be hired for tours or such, what routes they may take (esp set ones), how much they cost, and so on.
If anyone could provide real information on any of the following as best you can that would be great. I know it’s a lot but just so I can get an idea and some facts to provide, I have done quite a bit on my own but for some reason I’m having a little trouble gathering certain information.
I AM ALSO TO DO SUCH A THING FOR THE LAKE DISTRICT AND BLACKPOOL SO IF SOMEONE CAN SUBMITT ANYTHING FOR THOSE ALSO FOR A GREAT START THAT WOULD BE PERFECT.
Open Question: Paris 4th arrondissement : stay and travel?
I have booked a hotel in the 4th arrondissement, about 5 mins away from the Bastille for a 5 day trip to Paris.
1) I want to explore the city walking and want to cover as many cultural/heritage attractions by feet. Yet, I know that its impractical to walk everywhere (say to Sacre Coeure from my hotel). Is buying a 5 day travel pass a good idea or is it ok to buy a day pass for the day I plan to travel to the Eiffel Tower and Sacre Coeure)? For those of you who know/live in Paris please tell how well placed I am staying in the 4th arrondissement in terms of walking to most tourist destinations?
2) What are good places in this vicinity to eat cheap food (vegetarian), approx 5-7 Euros per meal?
3) Any Leader Price or Monoprix in this vicinity where I can buy budget food (like say a Tesco or a Walmart)
4) Visiting the Louvre on a free day: is it a good idea or will I end up spending half the day standing in the q before I even get a chance to enter??
Thanks folks for your help!
